Over the next nine months, as part of my doctoral work, I will be researching and writing a “white paper” on National Register-listed hotels and inns in Tennessee under the auspices of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.
I am giddy just thinking about all of the field work required and thankful for the fuel efficiency of diesel engines and entertainment afforded by satellite radio. I will be logging thousands of miles on the road.
To date, I have visited five sites across Middle Tennessee: the Walking Horse Hotel in Wartrace; Armour’s Hotel, Donoho Hotel and Thomas House in Red Boiling Springs; and Hale House / Patterson Hotel / Watertown B&B in Watertown. With the exception of the one in Watertown, they are all open for business.
Consider this your official invitation to join me on a grand adventure across the great state of Tennessee. May it inspire you to get out and see these places for yourself.
